Knowing RLM’s massive podcast PR success, Kilgariff and Hardstark tasked the agency with handling public relations for Exactly Right Media and its podcasts. These shows spanned a wide range of genres—including comedy, science, pop culture, and true crime—providing a true challenge that RLM could rise to.
Hosted by comedians and longtime friends Michelle Buteau and Jordan Carlos, Exactly Right Media’s hit comedy podcast Adulting takes a brutally honest and undeniably fun approach to the most frustrating, intimate, and relatable facets of adulthood. RLM leveraged the fame of Buteau and Carlos by offering interviews with them to discuss Adulting and their successful careers. RLM also invited NYC press to live shows of Adulting, where guests had the opportunity to speak with Buteau and Carlos in person.
RLM secured press for Adulting in numerous top-tier entertainment, celebrity, and pop culture publications. This included interviews of Buteau and Carlos in Entertainment Weekly, Forbes, Distractify, The List, Nicki Swift, POPSUGAR, Vulture, The Cut, The New York Post, and Ebony. The new season of Adulting also received coverage in industry trades like Podnews, Inside Radio, and All Access.
The hit podcast Bananas—hosted by comedian Kurt Braunohler and screenwriter Scotty Landes—covers recent strange, fascinating, and just plain bananas news from around the world. To promote Bananas, RLM coordinated with the hosts on a series of live stunts and events. This included “Splitty in the City,” a charity 1K “fun run” for those who don’t necessarily like to exercise, as well as “Door 2 Shore,” where participants raise money by walking from their homes into the nearest body of water.
To cover the Bananas podcast and its events, RLM coordinated with local LA media. This resulted in coverage in numerous digital, radio, and TV outlets, including Time Out LA, The LAist, Secret LA, Luxury Angelino, KTLA, NPR’s The LA Report, LAist, LA Story, and Patch.
Ecologists and epidemiologists Erin Welsh and Erin Updyke host This Podcast Will Kill You, a science series that provides an in-depth exploration of different diseases and ailments. To get the word out about this show, RLM called attention to its recent milestones, including the launch of its fifth season and its one hundredth episode.
Additionally, RLM explained how four episodes of this show had the rare honor of being selected by the CDC Museum for its COVID-19 Collection Web Archive. Only five podcast episodes had ever been recognized by the CDC Museum, four of which were from This Podcast Will Kill You. RLM also promoted the show’s coverage of diseases that were in the news at the time, including RSV and monkeypox.
RLM secured the hosts a number of high-level media opportunities, including interviews with Heavy, Health Digest, TODAY, and Popular Science’s “The Weirdest Thing I Learned” podcast.
Each week, comedians and amateur detectives Liza Treyger and Kara Klenk break down episodes of Law & Order: SVU. Knowing the diehard community of SVU fans out there, RLM leveraged the show’s status as the number one SVU fan podcast, as well as recent developments in the L&O franchise—including the relaunch of the ordinal Law & Order.
The podcast received coverage in a number of notable pop culture and lifestyle outlets, including Distractify and SheKnows, as well as a broadcast interview on PIX 11.
The passion project of former MTV VJ Dave Holmes, Waiting for Impact is a deep dive into a disappearance that has haunted pop culture diehards since 1991. Leveraging the power of ‘90s nostalgia—including Holmes himself and guest stars like NKOTB’s Joey McIntyre—RLM built a ton of hype around the podcast, especially among entertainment and pop culture outlets.
RLM secured Holmes interviews in a multitude of broadcast and digital publications, including The AV Club, Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Entertainment Weekly, The Daily Beast, The Forbes Book Podcast, SiriusXM Pop Culture Spotlight, Cheddar News, and Good Day New York. The show was also selected as one of The Guardian’s Best Podcasts of The Week and Vulture’s Notable New Releases.
On the podcast I Said No Gifts!, writer and comedian Bridger Winegar invites his famous friends to a thoughtful conversation. He only has one request: no gifts (which his friends always break). During the holiday season, RLM positioned Winegar as a “gift giving expert” to discuss the various gifts he received over the course of his show and how to find the best gifts for your family.
As a result of this outreach, Winegar and his show received coverage in high-level outlets like The New York Times and Showbiz Cheat Sheet, as well as niche and local publications like Bay Area Reporter, Outfront Magazine, and The Edge Network.
Hosted by Kate Winkler Dawson, Tenfold More Wicked is a unique blending of narrative nonfiction storytelling with investigative journalism. RLM highlighted Dawson’s background as documentary producer and crime historian whose work was in The New York Times, PBS NewsHour, and Nightline.
Additionally, RLM emphasized the podcast’s immersive approach to true crime, with each season focusing on a new case and providing a deep dive into the lives of victims, their killers, and how they made history.
RLM secured Dawson interviews with a variety of top-tier publications, including Forbes, Distractify, The New York Post, Insider, and Fansided. Plus, Tenfold More Wicked was selected for “What to Listen” lists in Women’s Health, Oprah Daily, and CrimeReads.
Through the use of a clever podcast pitch, the podcast was also covered in niche and local publications like The Austin Chronicle, Podcast Business Journal, Podnews, and Podsauce.
